Google Update Puts Local Results in the Hospital

Local results on Google just got rearranged thanks to a new algorithm update.

Yep, those results got tuned up pretty good by a gang of savvy programmers throwing the code equivalent of furious ‘bows and punishing haymakers. Depending on a whole number of factors I’m not even going to try to guess at this point, chances are the local results for queries relating to your business took a heck of a beating.

Some sites have come out on top, and their results actually jumped instead of getting jumped. Either way, Google sent a posse over to its local results and roughed them up for their lunch money.

What does this mean for you? Go ahead and try some relevant, non-branded searches and see if anything has changed. If they look like they’ve been taken behind a dumpster and worked over with a baseball bat, you know you’ve been hit.

We’re not sure of the details of the update yet since it’s so new. We’ve noticed changes for legal keywords, and for real estate keywords where for some terms, the local results on the main SERP has been dropkicked out entirely.

Things could and probably will still change thanks to this update’s beat-down. All we can do is pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get ready for the next round.
