High volume keywords are generic searches that don’t show intent. Intent is a strong indication of where the searcher is at in the “buying” process. We commonly refer to high volume keywords as “big fish” because they are highly competitive, high volume (clients love this), lack focus (low converting) and usually look better on paper.

Some search examples include:

  • Search: “restaurants”
  • Search: “italian food”
  • Search: “coffee mugs”

Better examples of searches mentioned above:

  • Search instead: “st louis bbq restaurants”
  • Search instead: “pictures of italian food”
  • Search instead: “golden retriever coffee mugs”
